Goals
Everyone always talks about setting goals and sticking to your goals... well sometimes that sounds like a really daunting task. Get a job, make X amount of money, buy that dress, get the promotion, win at life... it's sometimes too much!! In our generation we now get to see everyone accomplish their goals every day with social media. We scroll through posts and see smiling faces with people checking goals off their list, and it makes us second-guess our own goals and what we want in life. And it makes us feel behind.
Well I am here to say that number 1; social media is fake, so so so fake. Those smiling faces are sometimes not real and you do not know their whole story.
And number 2: goals can be whatever you want them to be, because they are YOUR goals, no one else’s.
Goals are defined as the object of a person’s ambition. As humans we all have ambition, that is literally what drives us in our every day life. We always look at goals in this huge way, that they have to be attained over a period of time, that they have to matter in life and that they have change the course of our existence. That is so much pressure every day.
Goals do not have to be overwhelming. They shouldn’t be. Your goals should be something that make you smile when you think about them. They should fill you with joy when you complete them, and you shouldn’t have to wait to feel that excitement till you complete a larger goal on your list. By this I mean set goals every day that you can complete right then and there. Today I told my mom “my goals today are to clean my sheets and get a bagel.” Well it is almost noon and I am already finishing my goals for the day. Just having the mind set of setting goals and crossing them off your list is a great feeling, it makes you feel productive and a sense of accomplishment.
I still think that everyone needs to have that smaller list of goals. This list can take years to complete. This is the graduate from college list, the get married list, and the have a fulfilling life list. But if we set smaller goals and are able to complete them, it compels us to work towards those larger goals.
All in all, everyone is different. Obviously. And we all have different goals. But my challenge to you is: be ok with setting smaller goals on your way to completing your larger goals. It feels good to complete something, let yourself have that feeling once in a while. And be proud of the baby steps.
